Betty Grable made over 80 movies! Most of them were colorfull, fun musicals, which made her famous. She only made 2 serious movies, “Yank in the R.A.F” and “I Wake up Screaming”. She really disliked doing these movies, because she know that her fans didn’t want to see her in movies that weren’t song and dances. “Chrashing Hollywood” was her first movie were she actually got credit for it. “Pigskin Parade” really set her and a young singer named Judy Garland. She started making musicals, and soon she was the sweetheart of the movies. Her movies were always colorful, fun, and full of music. Some of her musicals were “Mother Wore Tights”, “My Blue Heaven”, “Pin-Up Girl”, “”Farmer Takes A Wife”, “The Dolly Sisters”, and many more! She died of lung cancer in 1973. Now they have some of her movies out on dvd in a Betty Grable collection set.  Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketPhoto Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Tyrone Power Jr. is my favorite male actor of the 1940’s! He was born in Ohio in 1914. He made over 50 movies! His family had been in acting, his father was in many plays and some silent movies. Some of his best movies were, “The Black Swan”, “The Eddy Duchin Story”, “Black Rose”, and “Nightmare Alley”. He died at the age of 44 from a heart attack. He was in the middle of making the movie “Solomon and Sheba”, so they had to remake the movie with a different movie. His movies are a must see! Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketShe made over 280 shows!! Her first show aired in 1950. Each was about 30 minutes long, and were like a mini movie. She was named America’s best dress actress, because at the beginning of each show, she would do her ‘famous’ swirl through the door to introduce the show, and she would wear a newest designer dresses. The first season is out on dvd, and I give it an A+! They really did a bad job restoring it though, which was dissapointing.

Deanna Durbin is my all time favorite actress of the 1940’s. Her first movie was “3 Smart Girls” in 1936. She made 21 movies all black and white except one, “Can’t Help Singing”.  Her co-stars included, Gene Kelly, Tom Drake, Robert Cummings, Pat O’Brien, Franchot Tone, Vincent Price, Dick Haymes, Robert Stack(who gave Deanna her first screen kiss) Helen Parrish, Charles Laughton, Ray Milland and MANY more!

By age 21, she  was  the highest paid female  movie star in the world! She and Mickey Rooney won the Juvenile Award in 1939 and she also has a star on the Walk of Fame.

Her last movie was “For the Love of Mary” in 1948 and retired at the young age of 28 and moved to Paris wanting to live a simple life. She is still living there at the age of 86.
